Stephanie Furr and a commanding rebounding edge proved to be a winning formula for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, claiming a 72-59 victory over host Maryville University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown inside Moloney Arena.
 
The host Saints (8-6, 2-5 GLVC) rattled off the first four points of the third period, staking a 32-30 lead in what proved to be their final lead of the contest. The Rangers (10-5, 4-3 GLVC) scored the next seven points, including a Furr three with 6:30 left to give secure the lead for good. Maryville continued to hang around until a 12-2 Ranger spurt turned a five-point lead into a 15-point buffer. 
Olivia Montague ignited the spurt, hitting a three with 5:38 left while Furr hit a three on the following possession. The visitors led by at least 11 the rest of the way en route to the squad's 10th win of 2015-2016.
 
The Rangers' enjoyed a slim 30-28 lead at the halftime break in a volatile opening 20 minutes featuring four lead changes and one tie along with extended scoring runs by both squads.
 
Stephanie Furr sunk a three to open the contest but Maryville tallied the next five, securing a 5-3 lead with 7:30 left in the first period. UW-Parkside answered with the next 10 consecutive points, including four from both 
Taylor Stephen and 
Tara Knapstein as the Green and White staked a 13-5 edge with 3:10 left in the period and holding the Saints without a field goal for over six minutes.
 
UW-Parkside owned a 13-7 lead after one quarter of play but fell victim to a 12-1 spurt in the second period as the Saints reclaimed the lead at 26-23 with 2:18 left. The Rangers quickly rattled off seven straight to reestablish the lead, 
Jessica Prince started the run with a layup before Furr hit a layup and a three for the four-point edge. MU hit a layup at the buzzer as Parkside owned a two-point edge at the intermission.
 
Furr hit five of her seven three-point attempts, netting 27 points along with 14 rebounds for the senior's first double-double of the season. 
Tara Knapstein came off the bench and chipped in 12 points along with seven assists and six boards while Prince scooped up 10 rebounds.
 
Alex Wolf and Alex Hillyer paced Maryville with 13 points apiece while Ali Ringering added 12.
 
UW-Parkside dominated the glass, enjoying a 50-31 rebounding edge, including an 18-7 advantage in offensive boards while holding a 17-8 lead in second chance points
 
The Rangers return to the court on Thursday evening, hosting Bellarmine University at 5:30 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
