(Jan. 14, 2016)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad fell victim to a 17-2 run midway through Thursday's Great Lakes Valley Conference clash against the University of Missouri-Saint Louis, suffering a 67-61 setback inside the Mark Twain Building.
Shelby Cheston highlighted the evening for the Rangers, netting her first career double-double in a back-and-forth affair featuring seven lead changes and six ties.

Stephanie Furr jumper with 4:58 left in the second period gave the visiting Rangers (9-5, 3-3 GLVC) a 33-29 buffer but the host Tritons (7-7, 2-4 GLVC) closed the half on an 11-2 run, enjoying a 40-35 lead at the intermission before collecting the opening six points of the third period to build an 11-point edge with 8:45 left.

UW-Parkside responded with an 8-0 run to close within three at 3:55 in the third on a Cheston layup but the Tritons used a 10-3 spurt to reestablish a double-digit barrier and led 56-48 heading into the final stanza. The Rangers twice whittled the gap to just a possession, first at 4:07 and again with 33 ticks left but was unable to come any closer in the six-point setback.

The opening quarter was a see-saw battle with the team's traded leads, including a 7-2 Ranger lead with 6:15 left, the visitor's largest lead of the contest.

Cheston came off the bench and netting her first career double-double in the Ranger uniform, scoring 11 points with 11 rebounds and a game-high four blocks. Furr chipped in a team-best 13 points, also coming off the pine while
Kristin Conniff and
Tara Knapstein dropped nine apiece.

Kelly Kunkel led UMSL with 18 points while Robneisha Lee and Jordan Fletcher added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

UW-Parkside shot just 36.7 percent (22-for-60) from the floor while the Tritons shot at a 50.9 percent clip (28-for-55). UW-Parkside owned a 35-7 edge in bench production but was outmuscled in the paint, getting outscored 36-30 down low.

The Rangers cap off their Saint Louis tour on Saturday, facing Maryville University at 1 p.m.
