(Sept. 4, 2015)-- The ninth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team flexed its muscles in the season opener on Friday afternoon, blanking non-conference foe Alderson-Broaddus 3-0 at Wood Road Field.
Â
The Rangers (1-0) controlled the pace from the onset, taking a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute after
Lauren Bialas scored on a scramble in front of net after
Taylor Burek's initial shot hit the post. UW-Parkside enjoyed the 1-0 edge at the halftime break, collecting all 25 shots in the opening stanza.
Â
The Rangers continued to impose its will on the Battlers (0-1) in the second half, notching another rebound goal in the 68th minute with
Vianey Hernandez scoring off a
Lexi Porter rebound while
Macy Gassner tallied her first collegiate goal in the 80th minute off a feed from Bialas to conclude the scoreline. Parkside finished the contest with 46 total shots, including 16 on target.
Â
"It was a great start to the season," said first-year Head Coach
Brittany Nikolic. "I'm really pleased with how a number of players in their first college game stepped up and took on their roles and played a good game."
Â
Sarah Dobrowolski made her debut in goal, earning the clean sheet as the Ranger defense kept Alderson Broaddus at arm's length, with the visitors unable to muster a shot over the 90-minute contest. Her counterpart, Tayler Garcia, had a busy day, making 12 saves in the losing effort.
Â
The Rangers close out their non-conference slate on Sunday afternoon, welcoming Saginaw Valley State University to Wood Road Field for a noon showdown.
