(Sept. 6, 2015)-- The ninth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team suffered its first regular season setback at Wood Road Field in nearly five years, falling 2-0 to Saginaw Valley State University on Sunday in a rematch of last season's NCAA Division II Tournament Second Round game.

The visiting Cardinals (1-1) opened the scoring on a hot and muggy day in the 69th minute with Kristin Syrowik heading the ball past the Ranger keeper off a pass from Presley Tibbetts. Saginaw Valley State padded its advantage 20 minutes later with Lisa Schade striking in the 89th minute off an assist from Ashley Henderson.

The two squads battled to a 0-0 stalemate after 45 minutes of action with the host Rangers (1-1) controlling possession and owning a 4-2 edge in shots. UW-Parkside had its best chance of the afternoon in the 61st minute with a
Jenna Brzeski shot hitting the post. The Rangers ended the contest with an 11-6 edge in shots while the Cardinals enjoyed a 4-2 edge in shots on frame.

Sarah Dobrowolski tallied two saves in the loss for the Rangers while SVSU's Claire Spleth tallied a pair of saves to notch the clean sheet.

The game was a rematch of last season's NCAA Second Round contest that saw the host Rangers down the Cardinals 2-0 on Nov. 16. The contest was also the Ranger's first home regular season defeat since the 2010 season opener when Parkside fell to the same Saginaw team 1-0 on Sept. 2.

The Rangers close out its season opening homestand on Friday, welcoming Saint Joseph's College to Wood Road Field to open Great Lakes Valley Conference action. Kickoff is slated for 1:15 p.m.
