(Apr. 26, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader against Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division leading University of Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon, stumbling 5-0 and 12-1 at Greyhound Park.
Â
The Greyhounds (28-17, 22-10 GLVC) cruised to a 5-0 victory in the opener, pushing across single runs in the first and fourth innings before pouring on three in the fifth for the shutout victory.
Â
UW-Parkside's (11-24, 10-22 GLVC)
Mario Samuel was tagged with the loss, striking out two and allowing four earned runs in five innings of work while UIndy's Jake Sprinkle tallied the complete game win, striking out two and scattering five hits.
Â
In the nightcap, a nine-run surge by the Greyhounds in the fifth inning paved the way for the 12-1 win and a series sweep.
Â
The game was scoreless until Indianapolis came alive in the bottom of the fifth, capitalizing on three Ranger errors to pile on nine runs, including five unearned scores.
Â
Parkside got on the board in the sixth inning with a
Darius Hampton groundout scoring
Trent Muscat who led off the frame by drawing a walk. A
Ryan Hollander walk the next at bat juiced the bases for UW-Parkside but a pitching change and a quick flyout ended the inning with the Rangers still trailing 9-1.
Â
Indianapolis tacked on three more scored in the sixth to conclude the scoring.
Â
Tyler Jandron suffered the loss on the mound, pitching the opening five innings and striking out six while UIndy Connor Mailloux claimed the win, allowing one earned run in 3 2/3 innings of labor.
Â
The Rangers return to the friendly confines of Oberbruner Field on Tuesday, hosting in-state rival Cardinal Stritch University in a single non-conference game at 2 p.m.
