(Apr. 14, 2015)-- Enjoying the comforts of home for the first time in 23 days, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team earned a doubleheader split against Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rival Lewis University on Tuesday afternoon at Oberbruner Field. The Rangers were backed by a strong pitching performance in the opener, collecting the 2-1 victory before faltering 6-1 in game two to settle for the split.
The Rangers (9-18, 8-16 GLVC) struck first in game one, plating a run in the second inning after
Nick Janssen hit a single to right field, scoring
DJ Peltz who reached base earlier in the frame on a single up the middle. UW-Parkside padded its advantage in the sixth inning with a Peltz single to left field scoring
Ryan Ruediger who reached base on a single to right field.
The visiting Flyers (15-18, 10-14 GLVC) broke up the shutout in the eighth inning, pushing across an unearned run but was unable to do any more damage as the Rangers held on for the win.
Peltz and Janssen led the Rangers at the plate in game one, both finishing two-for-three.
Riley Phillips tallied the win for the Green and White, tossing the opening 5 2/3 innings and allowing no runs.

Mario Samuel handled the next 2 2 /3 innings while
John Perez faced the final batter of the game, inducing a groundout and claiming his fourth save of the season. Dalton Hottle suffered the loss on the mound for Lewis, yielding two earned runs and striking out four in six innings of work.
UW-Parkside seized an early 1-0 lead after one inning in the nightcap before the Ranger offense went dormant the rest of the game, suffering a 6-1 setback.
Troy Bittenbender drew a walk to open the game and was drivin in two batters later on a Ruediger single for what turned out to be the Rangers' lone hit of game two. Lewis tied the game with a run in the second, tacked on three in the third inning while pushing across single runs in the fourth and seventh innings to steal the win.
Nate Stolte was hit with the loss, pitching the opening 2 2/3 innings and striking out one while allowing one earned run. The Flyers' Eric Luecht collected the win, striking out seven and tossing a complete game one hitter.
Parkside continues its homestand on Saturday, welcoming GLVC East rival University of Illinois Springfield to Oberbruner Field for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
