Game Two Box Score

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Apr. 11, 2015)-- Early leads in both games proved unsustainable for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball team on Saturday afternoon, dropping both ends of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader to host and 16th-ranked University of Southern Indiana. USI's Brooke Harmening proved to be a thorn in the side of the Rangers all day, driving in eight runs as the hosts tallied 10-4 and 8-3 victories.

In the opener, the Rangers (6-27, 1-17 GLVC) pushed across a pair of scores in each of the first two innings but were unable to keep pace with the 16th-ranked Screaming Eagles (28-5, 14-4 GLVC) falling 10-4.

UW-Parkside opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with Carly Dundee collecting an infield single to score Madison Manders who led off the game by reaching base on an error. The visitors doubled it advantage the next at-bat with Morgan Dastych singling up the middle to plate Savannah Wells.

Southern Indiana answered in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs on four hits, including a three-run home run from Brooke Harmening. The Rangers knotted the score in the second with a Kalli Gosser triple to right field scoring Samantha Magruder and Manders who both reached base on outfield singles.

The Eagles pulled ahead in the bottom of the second, tallying three runs, including two off a MacKenzi Dorsam homer while tacking on single scores in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to secure the win.

Gosser led the Green and White offensively, finishing two-for-four at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

Dundee was hit with the loss inside the circle, laboring 4 1/3 innings before giving way to Amber Ramos who tossed the final 1 2/3 innings. USI's Harmening tallied the win, striking out five in the complete game effort.

UW-Parkside nursed a one run lead after 3 ½ innings in the nightcap before the USI offense came alive, scoring eight runs in a three inning stretch to secure the 8-3 win and claim the series sweep.

Wells led off the third inning with a single, advancing to second on a passed ball before scoring on an Emily Bell single to right center field to give Parkside the 1-0 edge.

USI seized the lead in the fourth inning, tying the game on a Ranger error before taking the lead after Harmening stole home.

A Courtney Ellingson solo home run knotted the score at 2-2 in the top of the fifth but Harmening struck again in the bottom of the frame, belting a three-run home run to give the Eagles the 5-2 advantage.

The Rangers reduced the deficit to just two in the sixth inning with an Alexis Simone infield single scoring Wells but USI again answered with Harmening driving in two runs in the sixth, part of a three-run inning to establish a five-run buffer.

UW-Parkside collected 10 hits in the nightcap with Manders, Ellingson, and Wells all finishing with a pair of hits.

Ellingson was saddled with the loss, pitching all six innings and allowing four earned runs. USI's Sarah Owens claimed the complete game win, striking out four and allowing three earned runs.

The Rangers return to the diamond tomorrow with a 12 p.m. (Eastern Time) showdown with GLVC rival Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky.
