(Mar. 21, 2015)-- The home opener for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball team ended up with losses in both games of their doubleheader, losing both by a score of 7-2, on Saturday to the Maryville University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup at the Case Softball Complex.
Â
After two scoreless innings in the opening game, Maryville (6-13, 3-3 GLVC) opened up the scoring with five runs off of three homeruns. The Saints tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning after loading the bases. Parkside (4-15, 0-6 GLVC) was able to get two runners on in the bottom of the sixth, but both were left stranded. The last inning, the Rangers got a rally started.Â
Kalli Gosser reached with a single up the middle, and two batters later
Megan Holderby hit a homerun to right center field. Maryville closed out the inning and the game with no further damage securing the 7-2 win.
Â
Courtney Ellingson pitched the complete game for Parkside, striking out five and walking only three. Maryville's Wendy Macias also pitched a complete game improving her record to 3-5, and she also hit the first of the three homeruns in the third inning.
Â
Starting in the circle for the Rangers in game two was
Carly Dundee. She retired five of the first seven batters the Saints sent to the plate, but with two out in the second, Maryville was able to score four runs. The Green and White were able to get on the board in the bottom half of the fourth when both
Madison Manders and
Morgan Dastych hit doubles, scoring Manders. Maryville got the run back after great base running by Ashley Marks, who stole second and was able to score on the next hit. Parkside's
Megan Holderby returned the favor in the next half inning, hitting a frozen rope over the center field fence for a solo homerun, and her second of the day. The Saints scored two more in the top of the sixth, and the Rangers were not able to recover, losing the game 7-2.

The Rangers are home again tomorrow against fourth ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis in a GLVC rivalry doubleheader.
