(Feb. 12, 2015)-- Camouflage uniforms were unable to disguise a dominating performance by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team on Thursday night, extending its program record win streak to 12 games with a 73-53 blowout victory over Missouri University S&T in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
It was a see-saw battle for the opening eight minutes with the lead exchanging hands five times while neither squad opened a lead larger than four points. A Brittany Anderson three-pointer gave the visiting Lady Miners (6-16, 2-12 GLVC) a 9-5 advantage with 14:26 remaining but the homestanding Rangers (19-4, 12-2 GLVC) collected the next five points to seize a one-point lead. S&T briefly reclaimed its lead off a Jamy Douvier layup with 12:15 for the 11-10 edge but UW-Parkside tallied 30 of the final 40 points of the half to take control of the contest, enjoying a 40-21 buffer after 20 minutes of play.
Tara Knapstein ignited the scoring binge, canning a three to reclaim the lead while Maddie Johnson netted a three the old fashioned way on the next possession, draining a layup and converting a free throw. Parkside continued to put its foot on the accelerator with a
Rani Singh layup two seconds before halftime opening up a 19-point advantage. The Rangers owned at least a 17-point cushion the entire second half as all 14 players who suited up saw game action for the Green and White.
Knapstein had a huge night off the bench for the second straight game, pacing all scorers with 17 points after hitting three three-pointers.
Gaby Bronson tallied 15 points and eight boards while
Brittney Fair netted 10 points off the bench.
Anderson led Missouri S&T with 14 points while Joe'l Bland grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
For the seventh time this season the Ranger bench outproduced the starters, accounting for 47 of the squad's 73 points. Parkside owned a 45-27 rebounding edge over the Miners, including a 17-3 edge in offensive boards while owning a 14-3 edge in points off turnovers and a 14-3 advantage in second chance points.
The Rangers return to the court on Saturday afternoon, taking on 17th-ranked Drury University at 1 p.m.
