SOMERS, Wis. (Feb. 14, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team battled back from a 19-point deficit only to experience heartbreak in the waning moments on Saturday afternoon, having its program-record 12 game win streak snapped as 17th-ranked Drury University hit a bucket with two seconds left to squeak past the Rangers, 69-67, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash inside DeSimone Gymnasium.

The Rangers (19-5, 12-3 GLVC) faced a 19-point deficit with 14:16 left in the contest and trailed by 15 with 5:54 left before mounting a 15-0 scoring surge to tie the game with 17 seconds left. Brittney Fair sparked the run, hitting a three-pointer before layups from Tara Knapstein and Gaby Bronson knifed the deficit to single digits with 2:55 remaining. Knapstein tallied the next six points before Bronson tied the game at the free throw line, sinking a pair with 17 seconds left. The GLVC West Division Champion Panthers (20-3, 14-1 GLVC) called a timeout with 13 seconds left and Sanayika Shields emerged as the hero, hitting a jumper with just under two seconds left to send the Rangers their first setback in 43 days,

Drury netted the opening six points but the Rangers battled back, taking the lead with 15:01 left in the first half after mounting a 9-2 run. The Panthers pulled back in front before 10 unanswered points from UW-Parkside gave the hosts its largest lead of the game at 28-24 with 4:12 left before halftime. Drury answered with a run of its own, utilizing a 10-2 spurt to reestablish a seven point lead and took a 39-33 edge into the locker room at half. DU continued to pour on the points early in the second half, collecting 15 of the first 17 points in the second half to build a 54-35 left with 14:16 remaining.

Knapstein came off the bench and finished in double figures for the fourth consecutive contest, pacing the Rangers with 19 points. Bronson added 14 while Jessica Prince grabbed seven rebounds and Fair added four assists and three steals.

Shields led DU with 19 points and 10 boards while Addy Roller chipped in 15 points.

UW-Parkside finished the game shooting 44.8 percent (26-for-58) for the game, including 52 percent (13-for-25) in the second half but was unable to match the Panther firepower as Drury hit 53.2 percent (25-for-47) of its chances, including a blistering 71.4 percent (10-for-14) from beyond the arc. Parkside won the turnover battle, forcing Drury to cough the ball up 26 times while the Rangers owned a 30-16 edge in points in the paint.

The Rangers, who clinched a first round bye in the GLVC Tournament despite the loss, return to the hardwood on Thursday night, facing GLVC East rival McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill.
