FAIRBANKS, Alaska (Nov. 26, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team was unable to overcome Northwood University's hot start on Thursday to open the Mount McKinley Bank North Star Invitational, suffering an 80-67 setback at Alaska Airlines Court.

The contest was tied at 4-4 before the Timberwolves (3-1) rattled off the next eight points, including a pair of treys to establish a 12-4 edge with five minutes left in the opening period. Northwood's advantage bulged to eight points before the Rangers (3-1) scored nine in a row to seize their first lead of the contest with 1:28 left in the first quarter. Shelby Cheston sparked the spurt with a layup with just over three minutes left while a Lauren Boerger layup capped off the spurt and gave UW-Parkside the 17-16 edge. Northwood's Kenny Delanet concerted a three the old fashioned way on the ensuing possession as NU held a tenuous 19-17 edge after one period of play.

The Timberwolves scored 14 of the first 18 points of the second stanza, building a 12-point buffer with 5:41 remaining in the first half. UW-Parkside knifed the deficit to just seven on two separate occasions but the red-hot Timberwolves enjoyed a 42-30 lead at the halftime intermission, shooting 53.3 percent (16-for-30) from the floor, including a blistering 63.6 percent (seven-for-11) from beyond the arc.

UW-Parkside whittled the gap down to a possession at 59-57 with 9:33 left in the game on a Bailey North three but the Timberwolves ripped off 15 of the next 16 points to build a 16-point spread with 3:31 left to seal the contest, owning a double digit spread the rest of the way en route to the 13-point win.

Boerger and Kristin Conniff led the Ranger offensive efforts, both finishing with 14 points while Taylor Stephen and Cheston both added seven off the bench. Kauri Jenson grabbed a team-best six rebounds with Tara Knapstein distributing four assists.

Maddy Seeley led Northwood with 20 points while Lauren Robak added 19. Jordyn Nurenberg finished with a double-double, dropping 16 points and a game-high 13 boards.

UW-Parkside finished the afternoon shooting just 34.4 percent (22-for-64) from the floor while getting outrebounded for the first time this season as Northwood enjoyed a 45-33 edge on the glass. NU finished the contest shooting 45.5 percent (25-for-55) from the field.

The Rangers return to the court tomorrow, taking on host University of Alaska-Fairbanks at 3 p.m. (Alaskan Time).
