FAIRBANKS, Alaska (Nov. 27, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad suffered its second consecutive setback at the Mt. McKinley North Star Invitational on Friday, succumbing 88-77 to host University of Alaska-Fairbanks at Alaska Airlines Court.
 
The host Nanooks (5-2) never trailed in the contest, scoring the opening four points of the game and utilizing a 13-0 run to open up an 18-5 lead with 4:25 left in the opening period. Alaska's lead shriveled to just six, first off a Kristin Conniff three with 2:41 left in the opening quarter and again on layups from both Shelby Cheston and Rani Singh but the Nanooks scored a layup at the buzzer to own a 26-18 buffer after 10 minutes of play.
 
UAF continued to pull away in the second period, outscoring the Rangers (3-2) 18-10 and owning a 44-28 lead at the halftime intermission.
 
UW-Parkside whittled the deficit to single digits on two occasions in the third period but was unable to come any closer in the 11-point defeat. The Rangers outscored Alaska in the final two periods on the game, outscoring the hosts 28-26 in the third and 21-18 in the fourth.
 
Three Rangers ended the day in double figures with Conniff leading the way with 14 points. Kauri Jensen collected 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds while Taylor Stephen chipped in 12 points, six assists, and five boards off the bench.
 
Four Nanooks registered in double figures including Jordan Wilson who poured on a game-high 26 points. Stephanie Toumson had 20 points and 12 boards while Kaillee Skjold and Arinesha Smith tallied 15 and 11 points, respectively.
 
UW-Parkside owned a 35-7 edge in bench points but host Alaska capitalized on 19 Ranger turnovers, owning a 28-11 edge in points off turnovers.
 
Parkside caps off the North Star Invite tomorrow afternoon, facing Sonoma State University at 1 p.m. (Alaskan Time).
