(Oct. 9, 2015)-- Participating in its fifth consecutive overtime match, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer squad finally achieved the optimal outcome, defeating Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Bellarmine University 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Wood Road Field.
Scott Nicolai was the hero for the Rangers (4-6-1, 4-4-1 GLVC) in the ninth minute of overtime, collecting an
Evan Garcia shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and putting it in the net, his fourth goal of the season and third game-winner of 2015.
UW-Parkside drew first blood with Garcia scoring in the seventh minute, finding the lower left corner of the goal on a shot inside the box with Nicolai providing the assist. The Rangers maintained a 1-0 advantage until the 80
th minute when the Knights' (7-5, 5-4 GLVC) Beau Laufer equalized the score with a blast from 20-yards out. Neither team would score over the final minutes of regulation, forcing sudden death overtime for the fifth consecutive game and the sixth time this season for the Rangers.
Remi Bibal claimed the win in goal, logging all 99 minutes and making seven saves. Bellarmine utilized two keepers on the night with Tommy Hebert playing the final 54 minutes and absorbing the defeat.
Parkside returns to action on Sunday, welcoming the University of Southern Indiana to Wood Road Field for a 2:30 p.m. showdown.
