(Oct. 4, 2015)-- Vianey Hernandez provided the game's lone score as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer squad finished off its road trip with a 1-0 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon inside Kiwanis Stadium.
Hernandez found the back of the net for the third consecutive game, notching the game-winner for the Rangers (3-6-1, 2-5-1 GLVC) in the 16
th minute off an assist from
Jillian Hetfleisch. The goal was Hernandez's team-leading fifth of the season while the assist was Hetfleisch's third of the 2015 campaign.
All 11 shots taken in the first half were off the boots of UW-Parkside players as the Ranger defense put the clamps down on the Prairie Stars (3-6-1, 2-4-1 GLVC), earning the squad's fourth shutout of the season. UW-Parkside ended the contest with a commanding 18-2 advantage in shots, including eight of the nine shots on goal.
Sarah Dobrowolski logged all 90 minutes between the posts, making one save for the clean sheet while UIS goalkeeper Paige Polonus made seven saves in the losing effort.
The Rangers return to the pitch on Friday afternoon, hosting Bellarmine University at Wood Road Field with kickoff slated for 1:15 p.m.
