SOMERS, Wis. (Jan. 8, 2015)-- A 19-0 run early in the first half put the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team in the driver's seat, dominating Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Maryville University 92-62 on Thursday evening in the home opener inside DeSimone Gymnasium.

Sarah Mlachnik opened the game with a three but the visiting Saints (8-4, 2-1 GLVC) rattled off the next seven points, owning a four point advantage with 17:55 left in the opening half. The Rangers (9-4, 2-2 GLVC) responded with a 19-0 surge over the next five minutes to reclaim the lead as Maryville misfired on all nine shots during the run. UW-Parkside led the rest of the way, taking a 48-37 lead into the halftime break after Gaby Bronson tallied the final five points of the half. The Rangers maintained a double digit buffer the entire second half, cruising to the 30-point win.

Bronson led all scorers with 27 points, collecting 10 of those at the charity stripe while grabbing six boards, four assists and four steals. Mlachnik added a season-high 14 points, shooting five-for-seven from the floor while netting six rebounds and four steals. Tara Knapstein added 13 points off the bench while Jessica Prince tallied nine.

Shelby Miller paced the Saints with 19 points while Alex Hillyer and Jade Rogers netted 13 and 12 points, respectively.

UW-Parkside owned a 43-29 rebounding edge while the Ranger bench out dueled the Saint bench by a 34-20 margin. UW-Parkside finished the contest shooting 50 percent (31-for-62) from the field while limiting Maryville to just 39.0 percent (23-for-59) on the night.

Thursday's contest was the Rangers first home game since downing the University of Illinois Springfield on Feb. 22, 2014. Parkside's season opening road swing covered 7,261 miles and included games in seven different states along with the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

The Rangers, winners of two straight, continue their homestand on Saturday, taking on the University of Missouri-Saint Louis at 1 p.m.
