(Jan. 4, 2015)-- Stephanie Furr converted a layup with six seconds left, helping the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team net its first win of the Great Lakes Valley Conference season on Sunday afternoon, edging Quincy University 55-54 inside Pepsi Arena in a wild affair featuring 11 lead changes and three ties.

The Hawks (5-6, 0-3 GLVC) enjoyed an eight-point 49-41 advantage with 3:45 left in the game but a 10-3 surge by the Rangers (8-4, 1-2 GLVC) narrowed the gap to just one with 40 seconds left. QU hit a pair of free throws with 25 ticks left to push its lead back to three but
Gaby Bronson hit a layup with 11 seconds left to close within one. Quincy threw away the ensuing inbounds pass giving the ball back to the Rangers. Furr sunk a layup with six ticks left and
Gaby Bronson blocked a three-pointer by Cierra Young with one second left to preserve the Ranger win.

The host Hawks tallied the opening 13 points of the game but the Rangers fought back, mounting a 16-2 run to seize a one-point advantage with 7:17 left in the first half.
Kristin Conniff buried a three-pointer to cap off the run and give UW-Parkside the 16-15 lead. The lead changed hands three more times over the next four minutes before Quincy ended the half on a 10-2 run, enjoying a 32-25 advantage at the halftime intermission.

UW-Parkside charged out of the locker room in the second half, utilizing a 14-4 run to reclaim the lead but Quincy countered with a 13-2 spurt to build an eight-point lead.

Bronson powered the Rangers with 12 points, five assists and three steals while Conniff added 11 points.
Tara Knapstein came off the bench and scored 10 points while
Jessica Prince had a team-leading seven rebounds. Furr, the end of game hero, collected six points and five boards.

The victory was redemption for the Rangers who were edged 56-55 by the visiting Hawks last season on Jan. 3 inside DeSimone Gymnasium.

The Rangers return to action on Thursday, hosting Maryville University at 5:30 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
