SOMERS, Wis. (Jan. 29, 2015)-- Scoring the opening eight points of overtime created the necessary separation for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad on Thursday night, emerging from DeSimone Gymnasium with a 75-66 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Indianapolis to extend its win streak to eight games.

The Rangers (15-4, 8-2 GLVC) and Greyhounds (9-9, 6-4 GLVC) battled to a 58-58 stalemate after 40 minutes of action, forcing a five minute overtime session. In overtime it was the hosts who took control, netting the first eight points including four from Stephanie Furr at the charity stripe to build a 66-58 edge with 1:31 remaining in extra time. UIndy's Victoria Schaefer drained a three with 74 seconds left for the visitors first points of overtime but the Rangers hit seven of their eight free throws down the stretch to ice the nine-point win. All told, the Rangers made 14 trips to the line in overtime, hitting 13 of those attempts.

UW-Parkside enjoyed a 27-20 lead at the halftime break in an opening 20 minutes featuring four lead changes and three ties. UIndy never owned a lead of more than two points while a Brittney Fair jumper gave the hosts a nine-point spread just under two minutes before the half.

The Hounds sliced the deficit to just four points early in the second half but the Rangers scored nine of the next 10 points to establish their largest lead of the night at 37-25 off a Tara Knapstein jumper with 15:58 remaining. Parkside's lead sat at 10 with 4:53 remaining in regulation before UIndy mounted a 12-2 scoring binge, tying the game at 53-53 with 2:45 left off a Kelly Walter three. A Kristin Conniff free throw with 24 seconds left increased the Ranger lead to three but Walter struck again from distance for the Hounds, draining a trey with eight ticks left to force overtime.

Furr led the Rangers with 18 points, sinking all six of her free throws while securing six rebounds. Conniff drained three threes and concluded the game with 17 points while Jennifer Blunt added nine points off the bench. Sarah Mlachnik chipped in seven points while scooping up a game-high 12 rebounds and distributing seven assists.

Princess German led UIndy with 19 points while Walter added 17. Nicole Anderson had eight boards for the visitors while chipping in nine points on the offensive end.

Parkside outrebounded UIndy by a 46-39 margin while owning a 26-10 edge in bench points. The Rangers hit 92.9 percent (13-for-14) of their free throws in overtime but struggled in regulation, hitting just 52.1 percent (12-for-23) of its chances during the first 40 minutes and finished the game shooting 67.6 percent (25-for-37).

The Rangers finish off their homestand on Saturday, welcoming Saint Joseph's College to DeSimone Gymnasium for Alumni Day. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
