(Jan. 15, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad poured on 19 unanswered points in the opening half and never looked back, cruising to the 71-48 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rival University of Illinois Springfield on Thursday night inside DeSimone Gymnasium, extending the Rangers win streak to four games.
The visiting Prairie Stars (5-8, 1-4 GLVC) sunk the game's opening bucket before going ice cold over the next eight minutes, misfiring on their next five shots and turning the ball over 10 times as the host Rangers (11-4, 4-2 GLVC) rattled off the next 19 points to secure a 19-2 lead with 10:40 left in the first stanza. Illinois Springfield reduced the deficit to just nine with 6:37 left but the Rangers tallied 19 of the next 25 points, owning a comfortable 38-16 edge at the halftime intermission. UW-Parkside enjoyed a double-digit buffer the entire second half en route to the 23-point win.
Stephanie Furr paced the Rangers, scoring 14 points while grabbing five boards while
Gaby Bronson chipped in 12 points, six boards and five assists.
Tara Knapstein tallied 10 points off the bench while
Brittney Fair contributed eight points and six rebounds.
Shelbi Patterson paced the Prairie Stars with 11 points while Syerra Cunningham had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Jessica Warren was the third UIS player in double figures, finishing with 10.
UW-Parkside finished the contest with a 36-6 edge in bench points while also winning the turnover battle, coughing up the ball eight times while UIS was plagued with 18 turnovers on the night.
The Rangers close out their four-game homestand on Saturday afternoon, hosting McKendree University at 1 p.m.
