Nemanja Medic came off the bench and tallied hat-tricks as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team overpowered non-conference foe Robert Morris University-Lake County 9-1 on Sunday afternoon at Wood Road Field.
After a quiet start,
Antonio Gonzalez got the Rangers (2-0) going with a goal a breakaway goal in the 15th minute with
Ryan Shogren credited with the assist. The Eagles (0-1) capitalized on a UW-Parkside defensive breakdown in the 18th minute with Miguel Cortez equalizing the score.
Elliott Schultz tallied the go-ahead goal in the 20th minute off a long boot from
Marcos Perez as the keeper earned an assist on the score. Gonzalez feed Kanneh for a pair of scores, first at the 37th minute with a header on a corner kick before hooking up again in the 43rd minute with Gonzalez drawing the Eagle keeper out of the box for the 4-1 lead.
UW-Parkside continued to pile on the goals in the second stanza with
Nemanja Medic scoring in the 51st minute off a
Ruben Torres assist. Kanneh netted the hat-trick in the 60th minute, converting a penalty kick before Medic found the back of the net again in the 66th minute off an
Evan Garcia assist. Shogren upped the Ranger advantage to 8-1 in the 82nd minute while Nemanja completed his hat-trick just 54 seconds before time expired.
Marcos Perez made the start in goal, playing the opening half and making two saves before making way for
Remi Bibal in the second half. Bibal turned away both shots he faced. RMU-Lake County's Arturo Escobedo had an eventful day in goal, making six saves in 90 minutes of work.
The Rangers have outscored their opponents by a 15-1 margin this season after claiming a 6-0 win over the University of Saint Francis on Thursday. Sunday's scoring outburst was UW-Parkside's best offensive effort since earning a 9-0 win against Calumet College on August 29, 2007.
The Rangers return to the pitch on Friday, opening up Great Lakes Valley Conference action against Missouri University S&T. Kickoff at Wood Road Field is slated for 1:15 p.m.
