Volleyball Wins Two to Close Keweenaw Classic

HOUGHTON, Mich. (Sept. 6, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball squad pulled out a pair of five set victories on Saturday to conclude the Keweenaw Classic, downing Bemidji State University 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 14-25, 25-21, 15-13) before concluding the tournament with a 3-2 (25-27, 25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 15-10) victory against Upper Iowa University.
 
Against Bemidji (1-2), the Rangers (3-2) rattled off three straight points to break an 11-11 deadlock in the opening set. UW-Parkside never trailed the rest of the way en route to the 25-22 decision. The Beavers claimed the next two sets, earning 25-19 and 25-14 victories before the Rangers buckled down and won the final two sets 25-21 and 15-13 to claim the match win.

Jackie Langer paced the Rangers with 18 kills and 10 digs while Roembke added 17 kills and a team-best 14 digs. Jeni Heller accumulated 10 kills, Meghan Conley tallied 12 digs while Megan Pekarek led UW-Parkside with 48 assists.
 
In the nightcap, the Rangers and Peacocks (3-1) traded set victories before Parkside won five of the opening six points in the decisive fifth set, claiming the 15-10 set win to secure the match and close the tournament on a two-match win streak.
 
Langer again led the Ranger offense with 22 kills while accruing 17 digs. Roembke added 14 kills and 19 digs with Heller contributing 16 kills. Pekarek had 53 assists and 11 digs while Conley finished with 17 digs.
 
UW-Parkside returns to the court next Saturday, opening up Great Lakes Valley Conference play against Truman State University.
