(Sept. 21, 2014)-- The 23rd-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team tallied its fifth shutout of the season on Sunday afternoon, rolling past host William Jewell College 4-0 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at Greene Stadium.
The Rangers (5-0-1, 3-0-1 GLVC) continued their stellar defensive play, notching shutout number five of the year after allowing just two shots all game, including just one on goal. With the win, UW-Parkside sits atop the league standings as the only team with three GLVC wins and no losses.
Jillian Hetfleisch opened the scoring for the Rangers, netting a goal on a breakaway in the 23rd minute off a feed from
Ashley Meyer. UW-Parkside enjoyed a 1-0 lead at the halftime intermission, outshooting the host Cardinals (1-1-3, 1-1-2 GLVC) by a 10-1 margin.
The floodgates opened in the second half beginning in the 47th minute with
Emily Konior burying a free kick. Parkside increased its advantage to three in the 74th minute with
Hannah Lippencott netting her first career goal off a
Jenna Brzeski assist.
Kelsey Armour concluded the scoring with an unassisted insurance goal in the 77th minute.
Mallory Geurts logged all 90 minutes in goal for the Rangers, making one save to earn the clean sheet. William Jewell's Jordan Lewis suffered the loss, allowing two goals in 73 minutes of work. Alex Dressman handled the final 17 minutes for WJC, allowing two scores. Jewell's goalkeeping duo combined for three saves on the afternoon.
The Rangers continue their four-game road swing on Friday, heading to Evansville, Indiana to take on the University of Southern Indiana.
