(Sept. 26, 2014)-- Taylor Schiffer-Jander provided the offensive output while the defense collected its sixth shutout of the season as the 14th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team escaped Strassweg Field with a 1-0 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Southern Indiana on Friday.
Schiffer-Jander tallied the game's lone score in the 14th minute, netting her second goal of the season and first career game-winner off of assists from
Bailey Reed and
Ashley Meyer. The assist was the third of the season for Meyer and the second helper of 2014 for Reed.
UW-Parkside (6-0-1, 4-0-1 GLVC) took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break, owning a 11-5 edge in shots with the visitors owning a slight 4-3 edge in shots on frame.
The Rangers owned a 7-4 advantage in shots in the second half, outshooting the Screaming Eagles (1-5-1, 0-4-1 GLVC) by a two-to-one margin over the course of the game.
Ranger goalkeeper
Mallory Geurts collected a season-high six saves on the evening, notching the squad's sixth clean sheet of the season, USI's Jackie Lohmann suffered the loss, recording eight saves while allowing one goal.
The Rangers, winners of three straight road games, close out the road swing on Sunday at the University of Illinois Springfield. Kickoff against the Prairie Stars is slated for 12 p.m.
