(Sept. 21, 2014)-- An early goal proved too little for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 to host William Jewell College in a Great Lakes Valley Conference skirmish at Greene Stadium.
The Rangers (2-4, 0-4 GLVC) wasted little time getting on the board with
Antonio Gonzalez scoring on a breakaway in the fifth minute. The goal was the junior's team-leading fifth of the season.
William Jewell answered in the 22nd minute with Aaron Froehlich scoring on a penalty kick. The two sides went into the locker room tied at the half with UW-Parkside owning a 9-6 edge in shots, including a 6-2 lead in shots on goal.
The Cardinals' Froehlich struck again in the 59th minute, netting what turned out to be the game-winner on a shot from the left wing.
Parkside finished the game with a 14-9 advantage in shots, including eight of the 12 taken on frame.
Remi Bibal made his first start in goal for the Rangers, making two saves in 90 minutes of work. His counterpart, Shane Van Hooser, tallied seven saves to claim the win.
The Rangers remain on the road next week, traveling to Evansville, Indiana on Friday night to face University of Southern Indiana.
