KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 19, 2014)-- In a showdown of nationally ranked squads it was Bailey Reed who emerged as the hero, netting a goal with 40 seconds left in regulation to lift the 23rd-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over 20th-ranked Rockhurst University on Friday evening in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at Bourke Field.

Taylor Schiffer-Jander set up the game-winner in the 90th minute, passing the ball to Reed who beat the Rockhurst keeper with a header from six yards out, giving the Rangers (4-0-1, 2-0-1 GLVC) the 2-1 lead. The goal was Reed's second game-winner of the season.

The Rangers and Hawks (5-1, 2-1 GLVC) battled to a scoreless opening half with visiting UW-Parkside owning a 10-3 advantage in shots. Rockhurst struck first in the second half with Taylor Skala scoring in the 73rd minute, giving the Hawks the 1-0 lead. The goal snapped the Rangers' shutout streak at 472 minutes, a stretch spanning all the way back to last season.

Rockhurst's lead proved to be short-lived with Karley Mecko scoring the equalizer just five minutes later off a set piece from Niekie Pellens. The goal was Mecko's team-leading fourth of the season while Pellens collected her GLVC leading sixth assist of the young season.

Ranger goalkeeper Mallory Geurts tallied the win, making one save in 90 minutes of work while her counterpart Ali Wallner made three saves in the losing effort.

The Rangers finished the contest with a 15-8 edge in shots, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on target.

UW-Parkside continues its road swing on Sunday, traveling to Liberal, Missouri to face William Jewell College at 12 p.m.
