(Sept. 13, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team was unable to keep pace with host Truman State University in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-21) setback inside Pershing Arena.
The host Bulldogs (4-2, 1-0 GLVC) never trailed in the opening set, collecting three of the first four points and staking a 15-10 lead. The Rangers (3-3, 0-1 GLVC) responded, scoring five of the next six to pull within a point at 16-15 off a
Megan Pekarek kill. The score stayed tight until Truman took advantage of two kills and two attack errors, to close the set on a 4-1 run for the 25-20 set one victory.
In the second set, UW-Parkside and Truman were deadlocked at 12-12 before the hosts rattled off six straight to re-establish the lead en route to the 25-17 set win. In set three, Truman led wire-to-wire, posting the 25-21 win. The Rangers trailed 24-16 before rattling off five in a row to pull within three but an attack error cut the rally short, giving Truman the set and match win.
Rebecca Roembke led the Ranger attack with nine kills while
Jeni Heller and
Meghan Conley added eight and seven, respectively. Pekarek tallied 28 assists while Roembke and
Jessi Mainczyk both finished with 10 digs.
Parkside closes out its season-opening road swing on Sunday, heading to Illinois to face Quincy University. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
