(Sept. 12, 2014)-- Soggy field conditions were unable to slow down the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team on Friday afternoon at Wood Road Field, scoring early and often in a 7-0 rout of Missouri University S&T to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Jillian Hetfleisch came off the bench and netted three goals while
Kayleigh Moore and
Niekie Pellens both served up a pair of assists in the shutout win.
Kelsey Armour got things started for the Rangers (3-0, 1-0 GLVC), scoring just over three minutes into the game off assists from
Bailey Reed and
Kelly Trojak.
Karley Mecko doubled the home side's advantage just under three minutes later, scoring off a corner kick served in by Pellens.
Vianey Hernandez found the back of the net off a Moore pass in the 30th minute while Hetfleisch tallied her first of three goals in the 32nd minute off Moore and Armour assists.
Jenna Rivera scored off a
Emily Konior feed in the 35th minute as the Green and White enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 lead at the halftime break.
Hetfleisch notched a goal in the 49th minute off assists from Pellens and Hernandez before capping off the hat-trick with a score in the 60th minute off an
Ashley Meyer pass.
UW-Parkside rifled off 25 shots on the afternoon while limiting the Miners (0-3, 0-1 GLVC) to just three shots all game with none landing on target.
Assisted by a stout defensive backline,
Mallory Geurts secured her third clean sheet in as many tries, logging all 90 minutes in goal and making no saves. The Rangers have now gone 389 minutes without yielding a goal, a streak spanning back to the 2013 season.
The Rangers close out their homestand on Sunday afternoon, welcoming Drury University to Wood Road Field for a 2:30 p.m. clash.
