(Apr. 8, 2014)--The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball team will take a breather from Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Wednesday afternoon, heading north to square off against Division I University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in a non-conference twinbill at Riverview Park.
Wednesday's skirmish will be the Rangers first games on Wisconsin soil this season, having logged the opening 20 games in various locations in Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri. First pitch of the non-conference doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
About the Rangers: UW-Parkside (2-18, 2-14 GLVC) looks to shake a five-game skid, having dropped three of the five games in extra innings. The Rangers owned a 1-0 lead on Bellarmine University with two outs in the seventh on Saturday in Romeoville, Ill., before an error in the outfield allowed the Knights to tie the game. Bellarmine went on to win 2-1 in eight innings before claiming the 5-0 win in game two.
On Sunday, the Rangers fell 10-1 in five innings to the University of Southern Indiana before letting an early lead slip away in a 6-4 nine inning setback. The Rangers led 2-0 after the first inning as
Kira Cooper and
Alexis Simone both went yard before building a 4-0 buffer with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Screaming Eagles battled back with two runs in the sixth and seventh innings before plating two in the ninth to secure the win in Romeoville at the Lewis Softball Field.
Cooper continues to lead the Rangers in hitting, sporting a .426 batting average with an on-base percentage of .443 while
Kalli Gosser is sporting a .328 average with four extra base hits and seven RBIs. Simone is the third Ranger hitting above .300, carrying a .306 average while
Kirsten Luevano is the team-leader in home runs (3) and RBIs (16).
In the circle,
Carly Dundee is the team leader in earned run average (5.01), complete games (5), innings pitched (64 1/3) and strikeouts (27).
Hayley Schneider sports a 5.31 ERA in 29 innings of work while
Kristin Kleinmeyer has 19 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings of action.
About the Phoenix: UW-Green Bay (14-7, 3-2 Horizon League) enters Wednesday having won two of its last three games. Green Bay opened up its home schedule on Saturday, blanking Youngstown State University 2-0 before earning a split with the Penguins on Sunday. UWGB secured the 5-2 win in the opener before falling 2-0 to Youngstown to close the series.

Moving on up: UW-Parkside's home opener was moved up by a day as the Rangers will begin their home slate at the Case Complex on Friday at noon against Rockhurst University. The doubleheader kicks off an extended home stay for the Rangers, playing four home doubleheaders in a six day span.
Turn Up The Pink: Turn up the Pink is the Rangers' sixth annual pink game to support breast cancer research. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 12 against William Jewell College. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. at the Case Complex. All proceeds of the event go to the Susan G. Komen fund.
