SOMERS, Wis. (Apr. 21, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside earned a non-conference doubleheader split on a soggy Monday afternoon, falling to Cardinal Stritch University 9-4 in the opener before pounding the visitors 13-5 in a mercy rule shortened game two at the Case Complex.

A six-run sixth inning spelled doom for the Rangers (6-25) in the opener as the Wolves (29-20) claimed the game one win. Both teams tallied runs in the first inning before the Rangers claimed the lead with another run in the second inning. Stritch seized the lead with a pair of scores in the third before UW-Parkside reclaimed its edge with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Cardinal Stritch claimed the lead for good with a six-run surge in the sixth to close the scoring.

Kirsten Luevano singled in a run in the second inning while it was Kira Cooper in the second with a single through the left side to score Diana Gordon. Luevano was at it again in the fifth scoring Cooper and Kalli Gosser on a two-out double to left center field.

Luevano guided the offense, finishing two-for-three with three RBIs while Cooper was two-for-four.

Hayley Schneider was tagged with the loss, allowing eight runs in 5 1/3 innings of work. Her counterpart Tori Burke claimed the win, striking out five in the complete game effort.

Five runs in the third inning set the table for the Rangers' mercy rule victory in the nightcap to secure the split.

A Gosser sacrifice fly plated the game's opening score in the first inning before Morgan Dastych belted her first career home run in the bottom of the second, plating a pair for the 3-0 lead. Parkside continued to inflict damage on the Wolves in the third inning, piling on five runs. Gosser doubled in a run, Diana Gordon hit in a run before Kristin Kleinmeyer belted a bases loaded double, plating three and giving the home side the 8-0 edge.

Cardinal Stritch answered with three runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth before the Rangers struck back, scoring three runs in the fifth. Kleinmeyer singled in Megan Holderby for the frame's first score before Carly Dundee belted a two-run home run for the 11-4 advantage. The Wolves scratched across a score in the sixth but UW-Parkside responded with two in the bottom of the second to enact the mercy rule. Sam Magruder drove in the inning's first score before a Dastych sac fly plated Luevano for the final eight-run margin.

Parkside piled on 15 hits in the game with Dundee leading the way a perfect four-for-four at the dish with two RBIs and three runs scored. Emily Hastings, Gosser, Luevano and Holderby all finished with multiple hits.

Mallory Ivers collected her first career win in the circle, striking out two in four innings of work. Stritch's Shannon Caliri was tagged with the defeat, yielding eight runs in three innings of work.

The Rangers return to the diamond tomorrow at 1 p.m., traveling to Lewis University to complete a suspended game before playing their regularly scheduled twinbill.
