SOMERS, Wis. (Mar 7, 2014)-- After being dormant last weekend due to inclement weather the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball and softball squads return to the diamond this week, both traveling to the Show Me State to open up Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The baseball team heads to Rolla, Mo. for a four-game set against host Missouri University S&T while softball treks to Saint Louis where they will square off against Maryville University and eighth-ranked University of Missouri-Saint Louis.
The Ranger baseball team (0-4) opens GLVC action on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the S&T Baseball Field. The two teams return to the diamond on Sunday for another doubleheader beginning at noon. For the UW-Parkside softball team (0-4), poor field conditions have rearranged the schedule with the UMSL doubleheader moved from Saturday to Monday. As a result the Rangers open the weekend on Sunday against Maryville at 12 p.m. Parkside closes the road swing with a 12 p.m. start on Monday against the nationally-ranked Tritons. Live stats will be available for the
baseball team's series against S&T and for the softball doubleheaders against the
Saints and
Tritons.
Baseball Tidbits: UW-Parkside has been inactive since Feb. 23, when the team dropped four games against host Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. Missouri S&T heads into the weekend with a 4-6 overall record, having already logged eight home games. The Miners last game was on Wednesday, edging visiting Missouri Southern State University 6-5.
Softball Notes: The Rangers have yet to play outdoors with the opening four games being contested inside a temperature controlled dome in Suburban Chicago. Two of Parkside's four defeats have come at the hands of Top 25 squads, including a 1-0 setback against then No. 17 Wayne State University on Feb. 23. Maryville (2-4) heads into the weekend after almost a month layoff. The Saints played six games at the Charger Chillout in Huntsville, Ala. on Feb. 7 through Feb. 9 but have unable to take the diamond since, with last weekend's Worth Invitational getting scrapped due to weather.
The No. 8 Tritons have suffered just one defeat this season, a 4-0 loss to top-ranked University of Central Oklahoma in Bentonville, Ark. UMSL hasn't logged a game since defeating Emporia State University (5-1) and University of Central Missouri (6-2) on Feb. 16.
