INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Mar. 30, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball team was unable to match the offensive firepower of host University of Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon, dropping both ends of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Baumgartner Field. The Rangers fell 12-0 in the opener before suffering an 8-0 setback in game two.
In the opener, two big innings unglued the Rangers (1-13, 1-9 GLVC) in the mercy-rule defeat. The game was scoreless before the Greyhounds (17-7, 10-2 GLVC) plated four runs in the bottom of the third inning off a Cori Eckerle grand slam. UIndy piled on eight more runs the next inning en route to the win.
UW-Parkside's
Carly Dundee suffered the loss on the mound, tossing 3 2/3 innings and striking out four. Morgan Foley claimed the win for Indianapolis, logging the opening four frames and striking out seven while Morgan Lewis handled the final inning, striking out three in the combined one-hitter.
Lexi Sotiros tallied the Rangers' lone hit, finishing one-for-one at the dish.
In the nightcap, UIndy raced out to a 5-0 advantage after one inning of play en route to the five inning 8-0 win.
Two of the Rangers' three hits came off the bat of
Kira Cooper as the center fielder finished two-for-three at the plate while Sotiros was one-for-two.
Kristin Kleinmeyer was saddled with the loss for the Rangers, pitching three innings and striking out two. Lewis earned the game two win, tossing four innings and striking out seven.
Parkside returns to the diamond tomorrow afternoon, closing out its tour of Indiana against Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
