KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (Mar. 14, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad opened the lid on Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to Truman State University. The Rangers dropped a 17-0 decision in the opener before suffering a 7-5 setback in a marathon nine-inning affair to finish the doubleheader.

In the opener, Truman State (14-3, 6-0 GLVC) pushed across four runs in both the second and third innings while driving in seven runs in the fourth en route to the five inning mercy rule decision.

Kira Cooper paced the Rangers (0-6, 0-2 GLVC) offensively in game one, collecting two of the squad's three hits, finishing a perfect two-for-two at the dish.

Mallory Ivers suffered the loss for UW-Parkside, lasting two innings and yielding five earned runs. Kinda Henze earned the win for the Bulldogs in the circle, striking out five in the complete game effort.

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs piled on four runs in the top of the first and added one more in the second, securing an early 5-0 advantage. The Rangers struck back in the fourth inning, pulling with a run after plating four runs on four hits.

Kalli Gosser got things started with a one-out double, scoring the next at-bat as Diana Gordon blasted an RBI double to left field. Megan Holderby singled in Gordon while Kirsten Luevano cleared the bases with her first home run of the season, clearing the right center field fence to close the gap to just 5-4.

UW-Parkside scratched across a run in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game and forcing extra innings. Lexi Sotiros led off the frame with an infield single, advancing to second on an Alexis Simone base knock. Cooper laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third before a Colleen Cummings sacrifice fly plated Sotiros to net the score at 5-5.

Neither team was able to tally a run in the eighth before the Bulldogs mustered two in the ninth to secure the win. A single, an error and a walk loaded the bases for Truman before Andrea Klipsch belted in a pair on a single to center field. Truman retired three straight batters in the bottom of the ninth to hold on for the series sweep.

The Rangers' seven hits came from seven different players in game two, with Luevano leading the way with two RBIs.

Carly Dundee absorbed the loss in the circle, striking out two and allowing five earned runs in the complete game effort, throwing 192 pitches on the afternoon. Henze tossed the final three innings in relief of Kelsea Dorsey, striking out three to secure her second win of the day.

UW-Parkside travels across the state line to Quincy, Ill., where they will face Quincy University in a GLVC twinbill on Saturday at 12 p.m.
