#13 Flyers Top Rangers in Season Finale

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (Feb. 27, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team saw its 2013-2014 campaign come to a close on Thursday night, stumbling 69-56 to 13th-ranked Lewis University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division battle inside Neil Carey Arena. Four Rangers registered in double figures in a back in forth affair featuring 12 lead changes and three ties.

Host Lewis (22-4, 16-2 GLVC) owned a 14-11 advantage after seven minute of action before the Rangers (8-18, 4-14 GLVC) rattled off eight in a row, securing a game-high 21-15 edge with 7:48 left in the opening half. Tara Knapstein ignited the run with a layup before burying back-to-back three-pointers.

The Flyers counter punched with a 16-4 spurt, building a 30-23 with 18:55 left in the game. Lewis owned a 26-23 advantage at the halftime intermission before collecting the opening four points of the second stanza to grab the seven-point buffer.

UW-Parkside slowly chipped away at the deficit, pulling within a possession with 14:39 remaining off a Knapstein layup. The Rangers continued to plug away before utilizing an 8-2 spurt to claim their first lead of the second half, owning a 43-42 edge off a Danielle Slivka free throw.

The Flyers re-stole the lead with a 7-0 spurt and never trailed the rest of the way en route to the 13-point decision.

Gaby Bronson notched a double-double to pace the Rangers, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Maddie Johnston etched 13 points and seven boards while Knapstein and Jennifer Blunt chipped in 10. Blunt additionally finished with four blocks.

Mariyah Brawner-Henley led the Flyers, coming off the bench and pouring on 29 points while grabbing 12 boards. Jamie Johnson added 13 points with Kristin Itschner collecting 10. The win extended the Flyers' home winning streak to 25 games, the longest active streak in NCAA Division II.

UW-Parkside shot 34.5 percent (20-for-58) from the floor, canning five three-pointers early in the game before converting just two the rest of the way. Lewis hit 41.7 percent (25-for-60) from the field and owned a 34-10 edge in bench points.
