#16 Hounds Race Past Rangers, 74-42

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 1, 2014)-- It was a tale of two halves for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers owned a five-point advantage at the halftime break inside Nicoson Hall against 16th-ranked University of Indianapolis before the hosts ran away with the game, sending UW-Parkside a 74-42 defeat in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division showdown.

UW-Parkside (6-13, 2-9 GLVC) built an early advantage with a Bailey North jumper giving the visitors a 7-2 edge with 16:41 left in the opening half. Later in the half, the Rangers collected seven straight points, including the final five from Tara Knapstein to grab an eight-point buffer against the nationally-ranked Greyhounds (18-4, 9-2 GLVC) with just under two minutes left in the first half. UIndy hit a three with 55 ticks left as the Rangers owned a 29-24 lead at the intermission.

The Greyhounds opened the second half with a huge surge, scoring 15 of the first 17 points to seize the lead for good. UIndy led by as many as 33 in the second 20 minutes of play, outscoring the Rangers by a 50-13 margin.

Knapstein led the Rangers with 18 points and six rebounds, sinking four three-pointers while Gaby Bronson finished with nine points, six boards and four assists.

Kelly Walter paced all scorers with 19 points for the Hounds. Rose Savela chipped in 14 points while Princess German and Erin Murphy added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

UW-Parkside shot 42.3 percent (11-for-26) from the floor in the opening half but shot just 19.0 percent (four-for-21) in the second half. UIndy shot a pedestrian 34.6 percent (nine-for-26) in the first 20 minutes of play before scorching the nets in the second half, hitting 66.7 percent (14-for-21) of shots from the floor.

The Rangers return to action on Thursday, hosting William Jewell College at 5:30 p.m.
