INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 1, 2014)-- Tasting defeat for the first time in 41 days, the 18th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's basketball team saw its 10-game win streak come to a close on Saturday afternoon inside Nicoson Hall, falling 82-60 to 10th-ranked University of Indianapolis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division battle.
The two squads traded baskets to open the game before the host Greyhounds (17-2, 9-2 GLVC) mounted a 9-0 run to stake a 15-8 advantage with 14:38 left in the opening half. The UIndy advantage grew to as many as 14 points before taking a 43-32 lead into the halftime break.
The UIndy lead mushroomed to 20-points with 12:20 left in the game before the Rangers (17-3, 10-1 GLVC) mounted a run, cutting the gap to single digits off a three-point play from
Andy Mazurczak who hit a layup and a free throw to bring UW-Parkside within eight at 63-55 with 7:21 remaining in the game. The Hounds quickly rebuilt a double-digit buffer en route to the 22-point win.
Mazurczak led the Rangers with 15 points while
Zygimantas Riauka netted his 10th double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds.
Colt Grandstaff added 11 points while
Jordan Mach chipped in 10.
Joe Lawson poured on 32 points and secured 12 rebounds to lead the Greyhounds with Jordan Loyd contributing 18 points.
UIndy enjoyed a 50-30 edge in points in the pant while owning a 32-7 advantage in bench points.
Despite the defeat, UW-Parkside still maintains a one-game advantage atop the GLVC East Division standings. Parkside was 10-0 in the month in January with the last setback coming on Dec. 21 against Michigan Tech University.
The Rangers return to the court on Thursday, hosting William Jewell College at 7:30 p.m. inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
