(Dec. 16, 2014)-- A venue change was unable to damper the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball squad's opening game of its Puerto Rico trip, leading wire-to-wire in a 60-41 rout of University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras inside Coliseo Mario Morales
Â
The Rangers (6-2) came out of the gate swinging, collecting the opening six points of the game off a
Jessica Prince layup and a pair of buckets from
Gaby Bronson. A
Kristin Conniff trey with 1:37 left in the opening stanza mushroomed the Green and White's advantage to 17 at 33-15 while enjoying a 33-19 edge at the halftime intermission.
Â
The Gallitos (0-8) closed the deficit to just 12 with 17:19 left in the game but the Rangers answered with a 15-1 spurt to stake a 26-point edge on their way to a 19-point blowout.
Â
Bronson led the way with 10 points, shooting four-for-five from the floor while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists.
Kristin Conniff and
Tara Knapstein each added nine points as 10 players finished with at least a point.
Â
Thaliangely Torres paced the Gallitos with 12 points while Nicole Rodriguez added 10 points.
Â
UW-Parkside enjoyed a 43-29 edge on the glass while dominating the inside with a 40-14 edge in points in the paint. The Rangers' opener was originally slated to be played on the campus of the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon before getting moved to the Coliseo due to excessive precipitation of the court.
Â
The Rangers return to the hardwood tomorrow night, facing the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at 7 p.m. (Atlantic Time).
