(Oct. 3, 2014)-- Jorge Ontiveros netted the game-winner with 48 seconds left, extending the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team's win streak to four games on Friday afternoon and downing Bellarmine University 2-1 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash at Wood Road Field.
Elliott Schultz opened the scoring just three minutes after subbing into the contest, registering his third goal of the season off a feed from
Antonio Gonzalez. The Rangers (6-4, 3-4 GLVC) enjoyed a 1-0 lead at the halftime intermission, outshooting the Knights by a 5-3 margin.
Bellarmine (4-5-1, 2-4-1 GLVC) equalized the score in the 73rd minute with Dan Schiavi scoring, ending the Rangers' shutout streak at 374 minutes. The contest looked headed for overtime before
Abraham Kanneh found Ontiveros with 48 seconds left for the game-winner, giving UW-Parkside the 2-1 advantage. The score was Ontiveros fourth of the 2014 campaign and his second career game-winner.
UW-Parkside finished with a 12-10 edge in shots for the squad's fourth victory in as many games. The Rangers have outscored opponents by an 11-1 margin during the recent win streak.
Goalkeeper
Marcos Perez turned away five shots in 90 minutes of work while Bellarmine's Blake Hunter tallied two saves in the losing effort.
The Rangers close out their three-game homestand on Sunday afternoon, taking on McKendree University at 12 p.m.
