SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (Jan. 9, 2014)-- Sabotaged by a nine-minute scoring drought, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team suffered a 74-50 setback to host University of Missouri-Saint Louis on Thursday night in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash inside the Mark Twain Building.
The visiting Rangers (4-7, 0-3 GLVC) owned a 20-17 advantage with 12:25 in the opening half after a three-point play from
Tara Knapstein and a layup from
Danielle Slivka. UW-Parkside would go ice cold for the next nine minutes, misfiring on eight consecutive shots and committing seven turnovers as the Tritons (11-1, 4-0 GLVC) piled on 22 points during that stretch, enjoying a 44-25 buffer at the halftime intermission.
Missouri-Saint Louis led by at least 14-points the entire second half, earning its 10th consecutive victory.
The opening eight minutes saw seven lead changes and five ties with neither squad owning an advantage greater than three points.
Slivka led the Rangers scoring efforts, collecting 14 points while
Gaby Bronson added 10 points and a team-high eight boards.
Tara Knapstein and
Sarah Mlachnik each tallied eight points.
Hazaria Washington collected a game-high 22 points for the Tritons while Devonna Smith tallied 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The Rangers return to the court on Saturday afternoon, facing Maryville University at 1 p.m.
