SOMERS, Wis. (Jan. 23, 2014)-- Trailing by as many as 16 points, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team rallied to within a possession of visiting Bellarmine University but was unable to get over the hump, falling 82-77 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division clash inside DeSimone Gymnasium.
The visiting Knights (9-7, 5-3 GLVC) enjoyed a 63-47 advantage with 12 minutes left in the game before the Rangers (6-10, 2-6 GLVC) rallied. UW-Parkside utilized a 14-3 spurt to pull within five with 7:03 remaining but Bellarmine ballooned its margin back to double digits with 6:15 left. The Rangers responded with eight straight points, including a trey from
Danielle Slivka to pull within two with 3:11 left in the game.

Tara Knapstein layup with 1:24 left pulled the home side back within a possession but the Knights converted seven of their eight free throws over the final minute to hang on for the five point win.
UW-Parkside shot a red-hot 60.9 percent (14-for-23) in the opening half and held a 42-41 advantage in a volatile opening half featuring four lead changes and seven ties. UW-Parkside led 47-45 with 17:11 left in the second half after
Sarah Mlachnik buried a three but the Rangers went ice cold the next five minutes as Bellarmine mounted an 18-0 run to secure a game-high 16 point buffer.
Gaby Bronson paced the Rangers with 19 points, six rebounds and six assists. Slivka added 11 points and five assists while
Sarah Mlachnik and Maddie Johnson each chipped in 10 points.
Sarah Galvin led Bellarmine with 25 points while Mackenzie Martinez and Therese Montano added 15 and 11 points, respectively.
UW-Parkside shot 56 percent (28-for-50) for the game but was plagued by turnovers, coughing the ball up 20 times.
The loss snaps a two-game win streak for the Rangers who will close out their homestand on Saturday afternoon, facing the University of Southern Indiana at 1 p.m.
