Women's Basketball Falls to Saints, 78-60

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (Jan. 11, 2014)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team was unable to overcome turnovers and cold shooting in the opening half of play, suffering a 78-60 setback to Maryville University on Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash inside Moloney Arena.

The host Saints (9-5, 2-2 GLVC) scored 21 of the opening 25 points as the Rangers (4-8, 0-4 GLVC) made just one of their first 12 shots from the floor. Maryville enjoyed a 38-19 lead at the break, shooting 53.3 percent (16-for-30) while holding UW-Parkside to just 20.8 percent (five-for-24) from the floor.

The Rangers outscored the Saints 41-40 in the second half, shooting 45.5 percent (five-for-11) from beyond the arc.

Four Rangers finished in double figures with Gaby Bronson leading the way with 15 points and eight rebounds. Tara Knapstein tallied 14 points while Maddie Johnston and Danielle Slivka each chipped in 10 points.

Rita Flynn paced Maryville with a game-high 23 points, finishing nine-for-nine from the floor. Shelby Miller, Alex Hillyer and Erica Lorton all finished with 10 points.

The Rangers return to the court on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., continuing their road swing against the University of Illinois Springfield.
