Volleyball Tames Thorobreds, 3-0

LAKELAND, Fla. (Sept. 6, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team encountered little resistance on Friday afternoon against Kentucky State University as the Rangers swept the Thorobreds 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-15) to finish the first day of the Florida Southern College/Terrace Hotel Classic inside Jenkins Field House undefeated.

In the opening set, UW-Parkside (2-0) stormed out to a 4-1 lead. KSU tied the score at four before claiming the lead at 7-6 and again at 8-7. The Rangers launched a 13-3 run from there, owning a 20-11 advantage en route to the 25-15 opening set victory.

UW-P never trailed in set two, building a comfortable 21-12 edge before the Thorobreds (0-2) stormed back, rattling off an 8-2 run to close the gap to just three at 23-20. A kill by Makenzie Fahnestock and a KSU attack error closed the books on set two in favor of the Rangers.

UW-Parkside controlled set three from wire-to-wire, grabbing a 7-1 lead and never looked back, tallying another 25-15 set win to secure the match victory, the squad's second of the day after a 3-2 come from behind win over Anderson University in the morning.

Fahnestock headlined the attacking efforts for UW-P, collecting 13 kills in the match while Kendyl Danelski and Lisa Gregerson each tallied eight kills. Lauren Hickson tallied 26 assists along with three of the team's seven aces while Meghan Conley led the squad with 12 digs.

The Rangers close out the FSC Classic on Saturday, facing the University of Tampa at 10 a.m. before facing host Florida Southern College at 6:30 p.m.
