Men's Soccer Blanks Eagles in Season Opener

SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 5, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer squad lifted the lid on its 2013 campaign in style, pouring on four second half goals in a 4-0 whitewash of Robert Morris University-Lake County on Thursday afternoon at Wood Road Field.

Despite dominating the opening 45 minutes of play, owning an 8-2 edge in shots and a 3-0 advantage in strikes on target, the Rangers (1-0) and Eagles (1-0) were deadlocked at 0-0.

Ryan Shogren provided the season's first score in the 51st minute to open the floodgates. Thomas Diehl came off the bench and doubled the Ranger advantage in the 58th minute courtesy of a Antonio Gonzalez assist while Jesus Oseguera collected the third score of the half in the 78th minute, converting a penalty kick after Ben Kosmider was tackled in the box. The scoring concluded in the 87th minute with an own goal by RMU-Lake County.

Marcos Perez collected his first career shutout, finishing with one save. Lake County's Arturo Escobedo tallied seven saves on the afternoon in the losing effort.

UW-Parkside finished the contest outgunning RMU-Lake County by a 23-6 margin, including a 12-1 edge in shots on frame.

The Rangers return to action on Saturday, hosting Saginaw Valley State University at 2:30 p.m. in the final regular season non-conference match of the season.
