SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (Sept. 29, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball team was unable to keep pace with host Maryville University on Sunday, falling 3-0 (26-24, 25-12, 25-20) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match inside Moloney Arena.
A tightly contested opening set ended 26-24 in favor of the host Saints. Maryville tallied the opening three points only to have the Rangers collect the next three to tie the contest.
Maryville built an 18-11 advantage but UW-Parkside tallied six straight points to pull within one at 18-17. A
Lauren Hickson ace tied the set at 19 and it was a nip and tuck affair the rest of the way until three straight points by Maryville ended the set 26-24.
The Saints tallied the opening four points and led wire-to-wire in the second set, winning 25-12 before surviving a late UW-P charge to win set three 25-20 to earn the sweep.
Rebecca Roembke and
Lisa Gregerson highlighted the Ranger attack, each collecting six kills. Hickson finished with 23 assists and three aces while
Sarah Mlachnik collected a team-best 16 digs.
The Rangers return home on Friday, opening up a five-match homestand by hosting the University of Illinois Springfield. First serve inside DeSimone Gymnasium is slated for 7 p.m.
