SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 27, 2013)-- A pair of second half goals propelled the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team back into the win column on Friday, earning a 2-0 victory over the University of Missouri-Saint Louis in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game at Wood Road Field.
Despite the Rangers (4-2-1, 2-2-1 GLVC) enjoying a 10-1 advantage in shots, the game was scoreless after 45 minutes of play.
Kaela Hoecherl tallied the eventual game winner, beating the keeper in the 77th minute after
Niekie Pellens threaded the ball through the Triton defense. The goal was Hoecherl's third of the season.
UW-Parkside doubled its advantage and sealed the victory with
Stephanie Barsuli blasting the ball past the keeper 35 seconds before the final horn sounded with
Lauren Bialas tallying the assist. The goal was Barsuli's team-leading fourth score of the year.
Mallory Geurts collected her third clean sheet of the season, making two saves in 90 minutes of work. UMSL's (4-3, 2-3 GLVC) Christine Lips suffered the loss, making seven saves and yielding two goals.
UW-P finished the game with a commanding 25-5 edge in shots, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on frame.
The Rangers continue their homestand on Sunday, welcoming Maryville University to Wood Road Field for a 12 p.m. showdown.
