Women's Soccer Falls in Overtime, 2-1

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (Sept. 22, 2013)-- A goal in the fifth minute of overtime put the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team on the wrong end of a 2-1 decision on Sunday afternoon against Truman State University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown at Bulldog Soccer Park.

The host Bulldogs (4-1-2, 3-0-1 GLVC) drew first blood, getting on the scoreboard in the 37th minute with Jessica Hanson tallying a goal in a scramble in front of the net off a corner kick. Melanie Hunt was credited with the assist. The game remained 1-0 until the 61st minute when the Rangers' (3-2-1, 1-2-1 GLVC)  equalized with a header goal from Karley Mecko with Alex Johnson getting credit with the assist. The decisive score came 4:41 into overtime with Alexis Heffernan scoring off a feed from Trisha Shoemaker.

Ranger goalkeeper Mallory Geurts notched six saves on the day in the losing effort while Truman's Emily Bozdeck turned away four shots to earn the win.

UW-Parkside returns home to Wood Road Field next week, hosting the University of Missouri-Saint Louis on Friday at 1:15 p.m.
