QUINCY, ILL. (Sept. 20, 2013)-- A flurry of late goals was unable to make a difference for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team, suffering a 3-2 setback to host Quincy University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown on Friday night at Legends Stadium.
The host Hawks (4-0-1, 3-0 GLVC) seized the lead in the sixth minute with Jaclyn Mastroianni tallying a goal off an assist from Taylor Wakeland. The QU advantage doubled in the 72nd minute with Mastroianni tallying an unassisted goal.
UW-P's (3-1-1, 1-1-1 GLVC) Emily Konior cut the deficit in half in the 79th minute with assists from Katie Gavin and Jasmine Espino before Espino tallied the equalizer in the 88th minute of play, scoring off a rebound.
The deadlocked proved fleeting with Kristine Vogt collecting the game winner just 77 seconds later off a feed from Mastroianni, giving host QU the 3-2 edge.
QU owned a 14-8 edge in shots during the game, including an 11-0 edge in the first 45 minutes of action.
UW-P's Mallory Geurts tallied five saves in the losing effort, logging all 90 minutes in net while Quincy's Jodi Chapie collected the win, turning away three shots on the afternoon.
The Rangers return to action on Sunday, facing Truman State University at 12 p.m.
