SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 13, 2013)-- Stephanie Barsuli tallied a pair of goals, guiding the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team to a, 4-1, victory over Saint Joseph's College to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday afternoon at Wood Road Field.
Barsuli got the Rangers (3-0, 1-0 GLVC) rolling in the 15th minute, finding the back of the net off passes from
Jasmine Espino and
Vianey Hernandez.
Kaela Hoecherl doubled the home squad's buffer just five minutes later, beating the keeper with
Alex Johnson and
Katie Gavin credited with assists. The Pumas (0-2, 0-1 GLVC) broke up the shutout in the 32nd minute with Stephanie Cradduck scoring off a feed from Megan Gramhofer.
UW-Parkside answered 64 seconds later with
Alex Johnson scoring off a Hernandez pass to increase the buffer back to two goals, enjoying a 3-1 lead at halftime.
Barsuli struck again three minutes into the second half with an unassisted score, her team leading third goal of the season.
Mallory Geurts earned the win in goal, playing the opening 82 minutes before giving way to
Michelle Girard. SJC's Amanda Volk suffered the loss, recording eight saves on the afternoon.
UW-P outshot the Pumas by a whopping 36-6 margin, including a 20-1 tally in the first half. Of the 15 shots on goal, 13 came off the boots of a Ranger.
The Rangers hit the road for the first time this season, facing the University of Indianapolis on Sunday with kickoff slated for 11 a.m.
