SOMERS, Wis. (Sept. 13, 2013)-- Unfazed by an early deficit, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside secured a pair of second half goals to sneak past Saint Joseph's College 2-1 on Friday afternoon in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at Wood Road Field.
Mikey Maloney tallied the opening goal in the 24th minute of play as the visiting Pumas (1-1-1, 0-1 GLVC) enjoyed a 1-0 advantage at the break despite being outshot by a 12-6 margin.
The Rangers (2-0-1, 1-0 GLVC) responded in the second 45 minutes of action with Thomas Diehl netting the equalizer in the 56th minute off a service from Milan Filipovic. Filipovic would provide the game-winner 10 minutes later, converting a penalty kick for the decisive score.
UW-P owned an 18-11 edge in shots in the game, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Marcos Perez tallied four saves in goal to collect the win while his counterpart, Steve Quella, tallied six saves in the losing effort.
The Rangers embark on their first road swing of the season on Sunday, facing the University of Indianapolis in a 2:30 p.m. clash.
