SOMERS, Wis. (May 4, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball squad had its home opener spoiled by Saint Joseph's College on Saturday afternoon, as the Rangers dropped a 4-2 10-inning affair in game one before falling 6-1 in the nightcap in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division twinbill at Oberbruner Field.

The Rangers (3-29, 3-27 GLVC) scored first in the opening game of the day, seizing the lead in the bottom of the third with an Eric DuCharme double down the right field line scoring Eric Abel with two outs.

UW-Parkside maintained the 1-0 lead until the top of the fifth as the Pumas (28-15, 23-11 GLVC) plated a pair of runs to grab the lead. Back-to-back singles followed by back-to-back walks tied the contest at 1-1 while a a fielder's choice brought in the inning's second score to put SJC ahead for the first time.

The Rangers quickly answered with a DuCharme infield single scoring Zach O'Haver in the bottom of the fifth. UW-P looked to grab the lead on the very same play but a Ranger baserunner was thrown out at a play at the plate.

Neither squad was able to manufacture a run over the next four frames, forcing extra innings. St. Joseph's Kolin Conner led off the 10th with a home run to left field while a fielder's choice plated an unearned insurance run later in the frame with the baserunner reaching base courtesy of a UW-P throwing error.

DuCharme paced the offense, finishing two-for-four at the plate with two RBIs while Derek Tuttle finished with a pair of hits.

Josh Hudnut suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs and striking out five in nine innings of work. SJC's Jordan Peterson went the distance, tossing all 10 innings and striking out eight while yielding no earned runs.

In game two, the Rangers once again grabbed an early lead before allowing six runs over a two-inning span in the seven-inning defeat.

Chris Glynn got the offense going for the Rangers, belting an RBI single in the second inning to plate Shane Hayes for the 1-0 advantage. Hayes reached base with a double to right field.

The Pumas' bats came alive in the fifth with three hits generating three runs, including a two-run home run from Brandon Brian. SJC utilized the long ball again in the sixth inning with a hit batter and a base on balls setting the stage for a three-run home run blast by Charlie Dennehey in what turned out to be the final runs of the contest.

Eric Abel tallied two of the Rangers' five hits in game two, finishing two-for-two at the plate.

Casey Doucette was hit with the loss, pitching five innings and allowing three runs while striking out three. The Pumas' Brian Bayliss Jr. earned the win, striking out six in seven innings of action.

Saturday's twinbill was the Rangers' first home contest after an uncooperative Spring forced the UW-Parkside nine to play its opening 30 games on the road.

The Rangers and Pumas close out the series on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
