LEBANON, Ill. (Apr. 6, 2013)-- Nineteen base runners yielded just two runs for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside baseball team on Saturday, suffering a pair of setbacks to Great Lakes Valley Conference newcomer McKendree University at Hypes Field. The Rangers fell 7-0 in game one while succumbing 8-2 in game two.

The opener saw the Rangers (0-14, 0-12 GLVC) pound out eight hits but the visitors were held off the scoreboard by the Bearcats (13-11, 8-8 GLVC) pitching staff as Sam Lidisky and A.J. Wise combined for the shutout.

McKendree began the scoring in the second inning, bringing in three runs before pushing the advantage to 4-0 with a solo home run from Tyler Collins in the bottom of the fourth. The Bearcats exploited a Ranger fielding error in the eighth, piling on three more runs for the final 7-0 tally.

Derek Tuttle and Andrew Mott both finished two-for-four at the plate for the Rangers to pace the offense.

Josh Geiger suffered the loss on the bump, togging the opening 6 2/3 innings and conceding four earned runs while fanning seven batters. Lidisky earned the win for the Bearcats, logging the opening eight frames and striking out five while scattering seven hits. Wise handled the ninth, allowing just one hit to finish the shutout.

An eight-run avalanche over the first two innings of play proved too much to overcome as UW-Parkside fell 8-2 in the nightcap. McKendree tallied four runs in the bottom of the first with three coming off a Rob Beatty one out home run. Three hits, one walk and two hit batters led to four more runs in the second as the Bearcats enjoyed an early 8-0 edge.

UWP disrupted the shutout in the fourth with a Ben Korman single to center field scoring Taylor Nehls. An infield single by Zach Cunningham brought in Chris Glynn in the seventh as Glynn led off the inning with a base hit but the Rangers were unable to do any more damage, stranding two runners on base as the game ended.

Eric DuCharme finished two-for-four in game two while Cunningham and Korman each collected an RBI.

Josh Hudnut absorbed the loss, tossing a complete game, striking out two while McKendree's Matt Sax earned the win, togging 6 2/3 innings on the mound and striking out three.

The two squads conclude the series on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
