SOMERS, Wis. (Apr. 28, 2013)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside softball squad closed out its 2013 campaign on Sunday afternoon, dropping a pair of games against top-ranked University of Indianapolis at the Case Softball Complex. The Rangers fell 9-1 in the opening game of the Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader before stumbling 4-0 in game two.

The No. 1-ranked Greyhounds (48-4, 28-2 GLVC) staked an early advantage in game one, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. UIndy added single runs in the second and fourth innings, to build at 5-0 lead.

The Rangers (11-35, 8-24 GLVC) erased the shutout in the bottom of the fourth as Kirsten Luevano led off the inning by belting a solo home run. Indianapolis added four more runs in the sixth to grab the 9-1 edge and enact the mercy rule.

Katie Neubauer was tagged with the loss, striking out two and allowing five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. Jennifer DeMotte posted the complete game victory for the Greyhounds, striking out nine while allowing just two hits.

Game two was a defensively struggle with the two squads combining for just seven hits.

UIndy broke up the scoreless affair in the third inning with a fielding error and a walk setting the stage for the game's first hit, a three-run home run off the bat of Taylor Russell with two outs.

The Hounds tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning with Jenny Thompson belting a leadoff home run.

Kristin Kleinmeyer was saddled with the loss, despite only yielding one earned run in the complete game effort. UIndy's Morgan Foley was dialed in, striking out 18 of the 22 batters she faced, yielding just one hit.

The doubleheader closed the books on the Rangers' 2013 season and was the final game for seniors Ashley Nowdomski, Brittany Rynish, Lani Grogan and Diana Gordon as the foursome was honored in a postgame ceremony.
